Significant Figures

Conversion factors generally have six significant figures, but some may have as few as three. Please see the sources page for information about how many significant figures each factor actually has. The number of significant figures in the result will depend on the number of significant figures in the input and in the conversion factors. (Entering 2.00 CAD will give more accurate results than entering 2 CAD.) If significant figures are not used for rounding the results may have more significant digits than the input or conversion factor.

Rounding to Smallest Currency Unit

The results are rounded to the nearest amount that can be expressed in coins and notes. For example, US Dollars are rounded to the penny and New Zealand Dollars are rounded to the nearest ten cents.

Currency Conversion Comments

Stephen: a couple of suggestions

A):
On the main page, all of the currencies seem to be listed starting with the country's adjective/noun (e.g. Canadian Dollar) followed by the currency, with two exceptions:
1) United States Dollar (instead of American Dollar), and
2) Pound Sterling (instead of British Pound Sterling.
In the second case, the nation is not even referenced.
Being consistent would make searching the list easier.

B):
On the conversion pages for the individual countries, the section titled "Starting Currency" lists the starting currencies by their code. Using this list requires the user to already know the code. Adding further to the problem is the fact that the list appears to be in order according to the country and not the code.
By setting it up this way you are forcing many of us to go to the main page first (i.e. those of us who don't know the codes of all countries we may be interested to convert from).
A better way, I think, would be to use the same HTML code that is used on the starting page for the section labelled "All Currencies".

Other than that, it seems to be an excellent site.
Kudos to you on the excellent work you have done and the service you are providing to people around the world.

Thanks, and keep up the good work.

Robert
